/n The death of Flash had me nostalgic for high school. Back then Macromedia Flash was such an intuitive editor that even I, a fledgling web developer, could singlehandedly craft magnificent animations for a 10th grade history project on the Satsuma Rebellion:

/n This seems like a good time to mention a great thread on how HTML5 failed to fulfill the promise of being a 100% replacement for Flash:

The gist is, HTML+SVG+JS was to be an equivalent engine for Flash content, but it missed something fundamental:
/n Flash's strength was its editing experience! The vector-based timeline editor allowed novices and pros alike to bring animations to life and share them with ease! Unfortunately Adobe lost faith in the product and so it eventually started fading away ☹️
/6 Personally I think that while HTML+SVG+JS is a sufficient runtime for dynamic Flash-like animations, the tools for creating such content pale in comparison to Flash itself. I've seen a couple of such editors come and go over the years, but do any come to mind now? 🤔
