⚽️💞ANDREA REWATCHES TED LASSO: A NEW YEAR'S THREAD💞⚽️

Yeah it's gonna be short but whatever, I love this show and I wanna shout about it to kick off 2021. LOST thread rules—one tweet per episode. My face is extremely in the mood for shape-based jokes.
Lost Lawyer: ...are you crying at the theme song?

me: SHUT UP NO ONE ASKED YOU
1x1: I remember SO vividly my worry that this was just a show about a man who succeeds at everything bc “positivity is all you need!!!” But the weight of the call at the end killed worry dead. And they seed Ted’s panic attack from E7 during the E1 press conference!! The build!!!!
1x2: On a lesser show, Ted’s talk (heh) would make an impact on Jamie AND immediately change his behavior. But while it clearly made an impact...Jamie wasn’t yet ready to be changed. Phoebe walking out on the pitch with Roy before we officially meet her😭. KEELEY JONES, A LION.
1x3: I’ve said TL starts strong but the first “level up” is E4. But that does a disservice to how perfect E3 is from just about every angle. Seeds Roy/Keeley, Keeley & Rebecca, Roy & Ted and makes it all look so damn EASY. Brett Goldstein deserves an Emmy for this episode alone.
“I don’t need a watch AND a phone!!!!!!!” is just one highlight on an honestly endless list of under-appreciated Roy Kent lines.
1x4: The episode that introduces Rupert as a frighteningly perfect villain and cracks Rebecca wide open as a result. I usually spend this episode hyper-focused on Keeley and Rebecca building each other up (and riding off in a carriage together with stolen champagne at the end)...
or Keeley and Roy’s crackling tension amidst Jamie’s bullshit (and that truly dynamite moment where Roy confronts Keeley with his honest feelings and she apologizes—sincerely and immediately). But this time I was gripped by Rebecca describing her relationship with Rupert to Ted.
Emotional abuse is hardly fresh territory for television but the honesty with which Rebecca describes it, her ownership of the hold Rupert had (and has) over her, the way she recognized it was wrong but she still lives in fear that he was right...
it’s a short conversation that encapsulates so much in very few words. Just fucking incredible shit from Hannah Waddingham.

And yes, this was 4 tweets for E4 but I’ve just decided the Level Up episodes get as many tweets as I want because it’s my thread and I make the rules.
(But this is why I have to apply LOST rules to all my watch threads, because I could talk literally forever about the stories I love and then we’d be here until we died.)
1x5: The triumphant high of Roy and Sam together scoring the winning point of the first on-screen match balanced by the tragic low of Ted’s wife telling him she’ll keep trying to love him the way she used to, she won’t give up—it’s a hell of a 1-2 punch. Jamie is a simple bitch!!
1x6: DANANANA DANI ROJAS! Jamie's series-best speech is when he puts the boots in the curse fire, but it's hard to focus on after referring to his child self as a "sexy little baby." Ted's fractures are masterfully expressed by Jason Sudeikis. Roy only smiles for Phoebe & Keeley.
1x7: I remain eternally swept up in the Roy/Keeley of this episode but this is the first time I've allowed myself to step back and appreciate the use of Strange by Celeste in its concluding montage. Sassy's a god-tier role—a friend who loves Rebecca enough to be honest with her.
I need to cook some dinner but THE DIAMOND DOGS IS NEXT AHHHHHHHHHH
(I think there's an excellent case to be made for Episode 7 being the second Level Up of the season, but my heart is with Episode 8 because it deals with the FALLOUT of E7 and I love me some CONSEQUENCES. But in a show this strong picking definitive favorites is near impossible.)
((THAT SAID MY FAVORITE IS, OBJECTIVELY, EPISODE 8 THE DIAMOND DOGS))
