The fact that January is National Human Trafficking Awareness month and each year I dread it more is telling. Please folks - be mindful of the info you’re putting out there and sharing. Be mindful of the difference between impact and performance. 1/
Beware of “doing something!” for the sake of doing something. Vet the person, people, or org sharing info - not all info or efforts are helpful. 2/
Remember QAnon & Wayfair & the 39 kids that were NOT found in a double wide in GA despite what you may have seen on social media, & understand how bad stats, sensational imagery, & commentary based on assumptions are the seeds that produce QAnon and Wayfair hysteria. 3/
Mute or block the influencers and Instagram warriors. Reject the argument that we can somehow find the silver lining of the sensational and misinformation because “at least it spreads awareness” 4/
This is all true now and beyond January, and let’s remember that too.
(Tl/dr: let’s commit to being better and holding ourselves, our colleagues, and the field accountable) 5/5
