Last year in New Year’s Day I woke up absolutely certain that I needed to move my family from NYC immediately.

And I did. I pulled the kids out of school that week. I figured we’d sort out details from there.

Weird.
Mid-February I was sitting in an NYC bar with two colleagues. We were talking about how the uni should shut down now for 2 weeks given the writing was on the wall.

We have campuses in China and Italy so the dots weren’t hard to connect.
The first week of March I moved my large lecture class online. The university wouldn’t announce a shut down until the following week.

I couldn’t sleep for days before making that decision. I felt so confused by the radio silence from NYC officials and university officials.
Days would have made a difference in the NYC response to Covid.

Plenty of NYC felt some awareness by mid-Feb I’m sure.
