San Antonio’s COVID hospitalizations are getting so bad that local hospital leaders penned a New Year’s Eve letter urging residents to help reduce transmission, writes @liz_hardaway. https://www.expressnews.com/news/local/article/Stay-home-and-stick-to-COVID-19-safety-15839305.php
The city didn’t report coronavirus data yesterday, but as of Wednesday there were 1,136 people hospitalized in SA with COVID.
During the summer surge, COVID hospitalizations peaked at 1,267. We’re on pace to surpass that in “a matter of days,” hospital leaders warn.
During the summer surge, COVID hospitalizations peaked at 1,267. We’re on pace to surpass that in “a matter of days,” hospital leaders warn.
“Without action to reduce the spread of the virus in this community, we will reach capacity, and our ability to save lives and care for the sick and injured will be in serious jeopardy,” the letter says.
When hospitals become overwhelmed, standards of care worsen because doctors and nurses are caring for too many patients. Treatments and resources have to be rationed. People die who otherwise wouldn’t.
SA narrowly avoided that last time, but we may not with this surge. Our surge hasn’t showed signs of abating yet.
