This was an emotional build for me. It is my homage to a member of our #GolfChat family who left us far too soon - @chapeaunoirgolf
backstory: while conjuring ideas for the @TGCTours design contest I was toiling over concepts. I arrived home from work late on Oct 14 & fired up the PS4. Rather than start on the concept I had decided on, I was compelled to lay a completely different plot. I went with it...
The next morning I learned of Mikeâs passing....
I knew then what I was compelled to start the night before, & destined to build, was a mixed bag of clean links inspiration (to celebrate Mikeâs Scottish heritage) blended into a misty Fall morning landscape set in the Canadian lake country...
What came next happened seemingly all by itself. I struggled w/about a dozen routing options. I realized I was forcing it & let go. with the opening 1st plotted, the rest fell into place. What exists today as the Black tees (Noir) has not changed since October. 6712 yards...
I hadnât noticed right away. Not until I started dropping the forward tees did I make the connection with Mikeâs birthdate - Dec â67...
After laying the routing, the process had me all over the place; which was unusual. At times it felt so random. While I barely touched the terrain, I planted & re-planted the plot at least 4 times - until I landed in a place that felt ârightâ. McAllisterâs valley...
It may not win any awards, itâs not perfect & may not be everyoneâs cup of tea, but the last couple months working on this was a fun journey. (aka rule 7)
If you give it a go, I hope you enjoy the walk (no carts
).
If not, thanks for stopping by
