Israel is leading the world in #COVID19 vaccinations with over 150K new people per day. Many wonder how Israel managed to secure from @Pfizer millions of #BioNTech dosages while richer, more powerful nations scramble with lesser evident success? There are 3 dominant theories:
The 1ˢᵗ is that Israel was willing to pay #Pfizer $30 per dosage, nearly double price. While this may very well be the case, it is likely that other nations could have easily match the Israeli bid and even top it to secure the coveted dosages, prompting Pfizer to choose them.
The 2ⁿᵈ is that #Netanyahu worked his "charmes" over Pfizer's Jewish CEO and Chairman Albert Bourla to make sure Israel is prioritized. While seeming plausible, experts stress Pfizer's corporate constraints as a publicly traded company with little room for such moves.
The 3ʳᵈ more likely is that Israel's highly advanced fully digitized public health service was estimated by Pfizer to be most capable of carrying out an effective rapid nation-scale vaccination operation. Something Pfizer needs to demonstrate the effectiveness of their #vaccine!
This 3ʳᵈ theory has now been corroborated by Israel's @NewsIsrael13 Chief International Correspondent @nadav_eyal in his weekly @YediotAhronot column. https://twitter.com/Nadav_Eyal/status/1344899494299709442
