white cis women stop saying you're "colonized" by the patriarchy when you/ your ancestors obviously have not been through a genocide of the scale of the jallianwala bagh massacre or partition or the bengal famine. stop appropriating our language and oppression!
saying this because lately i've had a growing number of cis white terfs telling me we're on "the same side" bc we have been through "the same oppression" like no, we are most definitely not on the same side. you are our oppressors.
it is, unfortunately, not surprising that most people believe that we live in post colonial times; you have been fed this narrative starting very young. there are surveys showing ~50% of britishers believe colonialism was "great" or "very good"
however it must be brought to notice that colonialism is alive and well; many academics have written about this but discussion about it is severely lacking on social media especially.
colonialism is seen in the outdated victorian "morals" that are still present in europe and north america today (this became even more evident with the uk's recent, very public attack on trans children's human rights). of course, morals don't have to be outdated to be wrong.
it is seen in the fact that the us continues forth with its not-so-covert imperialist installations of puppet governments in west asia to further subjugate the citizens of west asian countries.
it is seen in the racist dogwhistles in various bbc articles insinuating that south east asian countries like india, pakistan, or bangladesh or sri lanka are made up of """uncivilized""" peoples. (what is civilization? why must we conform to a eurocentric definition of the word?)
it is seen in the way genocides committed by the british empire are rarely talked about even today. very few people with power in the world care about us. (how did these power concentrations arise? whom was this power stolen from?)
it is seen in the continued fetishization of southeast asian women by (mostly) cis white men when they say we are all "fierce" or "powerful" or "exotic". you don't get to grant us power and take it away from us at will. we are not a monolith.
it is seen in the unwarranted increased jail sentences issued to Black people in the united states and in white people's collective denial of the existence of racist gerrymandering, gentrification, and the most violent manifestation of racism today - police brutality.
it is seen in the disgust (and patronization) with which bipoc researchers and students in academia are treated at universities, as though we don't belong there at all, as if we haven't been systemically prevented from generating knowledge that can free us from all our chains.
it is seen in the misogyny directed by white men towards any woc who commits the irredeemable crime of earning more money or being more financially successful than they are.
it is also seen undoubtedly in the broader collective inclination of white centrists (or liberals, i'm not quite sure) to somehow turn BLM into an exclusively reformist instead of revolutionary movement, or to not acknowledge the racial bias ingrained within law enforcement
(not just the police; this includes courts and associated bodies/ organizations as well). it is seen in the caricaturist depictions of African countries as being "underdeveloped" when in reality most are considerably more adept at managing public health emergencies.
and also evidenced by the fact that the US literally kept IMMIGRANTS IN ACTUAL CAGES THAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS CONCENTRATION CAMPS. LET'S NOT MINCE WORDS HERE WHAT THE FUCK AMERICA YOU FASCIST PIECE OF SHIT COUNTRY WHAT ARE ALL THE POLITICIANS DOING???
i shouldn't have used the word "kept" in the previous tweet; that's my bad because THEY'RE STILL THERE. colonialism is inherently xenophobic and eugenicist. i don't know much about this though since i don't follow US news much at all.
i am so angry right now i literally can't form any more coherent sentences about this. i'm going to come back tomorrow when (if) i'm calmer, but don't expect me to be all doormat-like to appease a random fascist's ego. if a nazi or paleoc*n or supremacist or terf even breathes
near this thread i'll personally punch you in the fucking face. enough with your goddamned bigotry and lies and prejudice.

2021 shouldn't be a happy new year. we need to fucking fix our problems, and accept the consequences of that, no matter how it makes us feel. bfn.
i wanted to talk about how british rule reinforced the casteist patriarchy in india, but i was raised as a hindu brahmin and i'm afraid i haven't done the required reading to talk abt this. and i don't want to talk over other people who are considerably more oppressed than i am.
here's a thread about white supremacy (& associated behaviour) in the new atheism (?) movement: https://twitter.com/radiantbutch/status/1345238209169661952?s=20
