if you’re looking for encouragement to tip you over from ‘thinking about doing Dry January’ to ‘actually doing Dry January’ then please allow this tweet (this tweet currently) to do that for you
i’ve done Dry January for i think three years now and i find it incredibly helpful in controlling my drinking over the rest of the year. if you’re distantly thinking ‘hmm maybe i should drink a little less’ then imo it’s a good place to start
i have a semi-fractious relationship with alcohol, in that i love it deeply and 90% of my social life revolves around it but also i need to be a bit careful i don’t drink so much that it ruins my life permanently
anyway main thing i learn from doing DJ is what day-to-day drinks i have are ‘necessary beers’. i would say about 1% of the beers i have ever drunk on a tuesday night were ‘necessary beers’, for instance. the rest i can easily lose
like most of those tuesday beers are just because you’re a bit thirsty and you haven’t learned to drink anything else to slake that thirst. it’s like eating a hamburger every time you are hungry. good, yes, but sometimes a banana is just fine
one thing that is good is that slightly-too-expensive elderflower cordial they do and some fresh limes and lots of ice and fizzy water. or a good non-alcoholic beer, some of which exist – i like nanny state
i figure DJ might be easier than most years because there’s no social scene to feel a sense of fomo about, but also there’s a ‘global pandemic’ on, so. if you have a beer then it's whatever, really
anyway! sorry to be sincere on main. i’m trying to delete it but twitter HQ says my tweets are “too powerful to destroy”, so they have to stay up. sorry! hny!
