Botman is left footed CB who plays for Lille, he is accustomed to playing in a high line and covering for attacking fullbacks.
He has a great reading of the game and thus makes his defensive actions looks easy. He is very rarely unsuccessful.

His 71% aerial duel success percentage in Ligue 1 shows he's great in the air. He has a 77% ground duel success rate. The numbers are similar to VVD before he joined Liverpool.
Against Ibrahimovic he won 5/6 aerial duels in their first encounter. A dominant aerial performance.

Botman rarely goes to ground. Instead to deal with pacey/tricky forwards he uses his strength and intelligence. He does have a good turn of pace but isn't at VVD/Gomez's speed level. He is quite slow to get off the mark but his long legs give him a good burst of acceleration.
His unique passing style makes him a fantastic ball playing CB. He's composed on the ball and his long balls are key in professing the ball up the pitch. His signature pass is a curling through ball with his left foot, this has created numerous chances for the lille attackers.
Weaknesses:
Sometimes he gets overzealous and sticks too close to his man rather than dropping off, this happens very rarely though.

Overall I think that Botman is a very good ball-playing CB who is a must buy for Liverpool. He has been one of the best CBs in the world this season and will only get better with experience. Anything under ÂŁ30M for him is a steal, he genuinely has VVD type potential.
