I agree with everything, but on the issue of more spaces for schools, there is no point having them if they cannot be staffed. There is a sortage of teachers, austerity has meant redundancies. The picture and situation around schools is very complex and this binary open/ close debate is pointless unless we look at the real issues and we all make an effort to understand why we are where we are with schools
Pandemic has revealed so many cracks, so many issues and uncomfortable truths about the state of education.
And it is time to stop demonising people who are saying schools should close. I teach these scared and vulnerable children, I speak to their terrified families and colleagues, including my colleagues left with long Covid, one is 32.
If only we learnt to listen to each other and if only the government listened to experts, we may not even be in this situation and we may have solutions for safe schools. It is too late for now, we need to be given time and resources to make this happen, we have a long way 2 go
Closed schools is wrong. We have never closed, we have always continued to provide for our communities. We had vulnerable children and key workers' children in school since March. We delivered food, PPE to local care homes.
Teachers had to learn new skills whilst some, including the irresponsible media, decided teachers were watching netflix all day, and whilst others found it no better to ask that teachers stopped being paid
When we can all see that this close/ open debate is now pointless because it stems from issues many have closed our eyes on for years, maybe, just maybe we can start getting on and understand those who try to be heard but get dismissed because there's always bigger n better
I'm no scientist, expert, but despite all the protocoles in my school, we had 27 colleagues catching covid( perhaps more), we all had to self isolate at some point, all our bubbles but 1 burst. And hand sanitiser and blue paper towel just won't cut it. It does run out too
