Imagine if you're in charge of a COVID ICU

It's already busy, overwhelming, your staff are depleted not just by illness but by quarantine, and exhaustion

Yesterday someone sent an email with some hyperbole likely meant to generate more help for your unit.
That email gets leaked, then picked up via social media, then into the national press.

That means today, on top of worrying about all the sick people, you now have the press and the Comms team calling up, needing your time.
On top of which, the trust board, CEO, divisional directors will also be requesting updates, there will be more meetings, more briefings to prepare.

That's on top of looking after nearly 100 very sick people.
Not to mention the relatives of those in the named trust, ringing up to ask why their loved ones are no longer receiving intensive care, it said so in the news.

Knowing that this story being in the press achieves nothing. No extra funding, no extra staff will come of this.
Knowing now that even though you all tried your best, and the disease is a killer, every death will now have the lingering question about the standard of care you provided.

No time to think about that now, there's another admission from A&E.
Actions have consequences, hospitals have communications teams for a reason, I don't take selfies in the ward or in ICU for a reason.

This is not the way.
