I'm on board with a lot of the criticism re: mismatches at SUG, but I also enjoy seeing how athletes who specialize in different combat sports differ in style when they do jiu-jitsu against some of the best grapplers in the game.
2/ Like, yes, Craig Jones is almost certainly going to win against a judo champion or strike-favoring MMA fighter under no-gi BJJ rules, but I also think that shows JUST how good some of these BJJ athletes are at what they do.
3/ An Olympic-level judoka could still beat the CRAP out of most people under jiu-jitsu rules. So could a lot of aging ("aging" lol like 35-40 yrs old) black belt UFC vets. But you put them up against the BJJ elite and they get dominated.
4/ It's far from a perfect event (& the fact that they don't keep the names of the competitors on the screen for the entire match drives me NUTS) & it can't be compared to like, IBJJF events, but I hope it turns UFC fans into BJJ students.
