these are my personal top ten games that i played in 2020. this isn’t based on quality, this is based on my enjoyment. this is not just games released in 2020.
these were the 26 contenders:
10. pokémon: let’s go pikachu
there’s not too much to say but i had a lot of fun with it. it’s probably the most fun i’ve had playing pokémon in a while. perfect for what i needed during 2020!

09. anodyne
anodyne is a very interesting game that deserves a lot more attention. the atmosphere of the different locations is amazing mix that with solid 2d zelda esque gameplay and use of very interesting themes kept me thinking of this game for a while.

05. deltarune ch. 1
a great short but sweet take on typical rpgs. oozing with charm, great art, and a great soundtrack. i was afraid it wouldn’t connect with me as i’m not the most gigantic undertale fan but deltarun ch1 was a great time!

04. digimon story: cyber sleuth (main story)
as someone who loves the monster collecting and battling formula, digimon cyber sleuth really captivated me. the world was fun, digimon are so much fun to raise and battle, and the whole game is charming. i’ll stop gushing now.

03. phantasy star
when i got phantasy star, i didn’t expect to find it so charming. the sega ages version adds just the right amount of qol enhancements. even with how cryptic the game was sometimes, the world and story were very classic scifi/fantasy. i absolutely love it.

02. final fantasy vii
my favourite game of all time. great story, great characters, great gameplay, great soundtrack, visuals that have aged in a charming way (imo), great world, and great replayability.

01. the elder scrolls v: skyrim
finding skyrim was one of the best things that happened in my life. a whole world where i can just do whatever i want? whenever? and i can be a super cool warrior in this huge world? or a mage? yup, i’m in love.

the top two games on this list were probably really obvious but i found two of my favourite games of all time in one year, i wasn’t going to just omit them.
skyrim beat ffvii only because it’s a perfect sandbox, but ffvii is still my fgoat.
