I fr think public education needs to be updated for social media. The whole Dream thing has made it clear to me that children don't understand the concept of a parasocial relationship and the consequences of it.
Dream is not your identity or your friend. He's just a content creator. You have no connection beyond producer and consumer. He should be held accountable as such. When he fails to provide a good product or does something morally unacceptable, you drop him.

Simple.
Furthermore, he does not see you as anything but a number. No matter what he tells you. JSchlatt had a lovely video on this on his Weekly Slap channel where he makes it clear that his fans and him are NOT friends. He doesn't "love" them. He cant. He doesn't know them.
This really needs to be taught to keep kids safe in future generations. Creators like Dream will use this to prey on kids and create parasocial relationships where they farm attention, profit and support by tricking fans into thinking they have a relationship. It's disgusting.
Kids will make this their whole identity and fail to create reasons of their own to enjoy life. I mean, I've fucking seen it. People who say Dream is their reason to keep going every day. That's great that you have a reason, but it should be made clear that's unhealthy.
This is for any celebrity or content creator btw. Dream is just the relevant example of one who doesn't care about the consequences of his actions. Parasocial relationships are damaging to the manipulated and potentially dangerous to the target. Dream may not realize that much.
I get very worried about the people around Dream. Tommyinnit in particular. He's just a kid. Dude isn't even in college yet, and for some reason Dream refuses to speak against the obsessive culture forming around him and his VERY YOUNG friends.
Tommy shouldn't have to do this, or be in a position where he's too scared to, or even need to realize that he should. He's a kid. Hes not completely free of fault of course, not like turning 18 makes someone suddenly immediately cognitively aware of everything. But still.
It's Dream's responsibility. As the adult and more mature and experienced person from whom Tommy is receiving much of this obsessive culture, he should be the one to ensure Tommy is in a safe and healthy environment as a creator. He's not doing that. This is the real problem.
Idgaf about whether he cheated or not. This is why I dislike Dream, not the fact that his fans never shut up about him, or the fact that he never shuts up about himself, it's the fact that he's at best irresponsible and at worst a straight up careless manipulator.
