One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever read is to treat yourself like you’re a child you have to take care of. Would you brush that child’s teeth every night? Would you stress feed that child a bag of chips or cook good food for them?
Would you make them break up with that toxic s/o or have them continue to feel they don’t deserve better? Would you pay for self improvement classes for that child or tell them that it’s a waste of money?
It feels selfish to want the best for yourself but totally normal to want the best for a child you’re in charge of. And I agree it’s hard to slide into that mindset but for people who are used to putting themselves last this is so key to everything.
