I joined Twitter 10 years ago today
My girlfriend (now wife) suggested it whilst we recovered from the previous night out.
I joined as polevaultweb which was the name of my web design business back then

I started following web design and development folks and found it a great place to learn from others
I’ve met some great people on here and had interactions that have significantly changed and improved my career since then -
Meeting @gilbitron on here changed the way I looked at building software.
I started to work part time for him on his WordPress plugins which at that time I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to do something so fun.
It inspired me to grow my own products

When I started to look for more work as a freelance WordPress developer, a quick search on Twitter led me to a tweet by @choccybic and I started working for the awesome @outlandish folks.
Great times with lots of learning and levelling up skills like Git and Xdebug

After following @bradt for ages, i saw he was selling @wpappstore_ which I acquired. When he was hiring in 2014, dropping him a tweet started the ball rolling.
I’ve been working with @dliciousbrains ever since & it’s been a blast. Learnt and grown so much because of Brad & team

Although I first met him IRL at a WordCamp in 2013, chatting with @kstover on Twitter ever since has been great personally and professionally
I’d been following @jackmcconnell for years and we almost worked together back in 2014. Now he’s my cohost on @pressingfm and it’s great regularly chatting to him
It still seems odd to count people on Twitter you’ve never met as friends but it’s real.
Great to know you @ryangibsonuk @codemonkey_jack @iannuttall

Twitter is a great platform for building your network, friends and growing an audience.
I’m thankful for the WordPress folks on here that share and contribute to the things I do like @PluginRank, @wpcontent_io and @wpusermanager

It’s also what you make of it. Having a network of like minded folks to bounce of and discuss stuff is invaluable

After tweeting him and getting him on @pressingfm, it’s been great to get to know @elliotcondon the past couple of years. Thanks for all the support and advice!
Anyway, here’s to 2021 and another year on Twitter
I think the moral of the story is - listening to my wife is always the best thing I can do!
