HNY. The irony is that we are mostly here celebrating Doom. But in a weird way, I'm not even sad, cause hear me out: I've been thinking that we're at a Doom denouement, and a return of Daniel. Huh?

MF Doom was one of the greatest rap / hip hop ACTS, but also likely one of the greatest works of ART. This is how this little story in my head starts.
Does anyone remember that moment 10yrs ago when MOS was recorded bugging out over DOOM, and spitting DOOM bars??? https://twitter.com/JoshuaKissi/status/1344776629457883136
Well, I recalled it - and so did @jRamos. So it went that he made a few phone calls and set up a show: Mos Def + Doom. A one off, exclusively in Toronto. Every one was pumped + the flyer was near perfect. (shouts outs Noel!)
As the word got out, shortly after Chicago was aboard and was was NY. so it became a 3 date *tour*, all off a short video. The Chicago date would be the 1st of the three. 5/
Would you have it that the Chicago show was a DISASTER. Mos was there, but but Doom was late - like Lauryn Hill late. And when Doom finally arrived, he went right to the stage, rocked the show, and then bounced. Literally spoke to no one.

At the time, no one confirmed it was Doom, not even Mos. But it seemed that Mos got in touch w/ Doom afterwards, where Doom confessed it was Fake Doom (he apparently wasn't feeling well). Upon hearing that, Mos left the tour. NY canceled their show, but Toronto kept the date. 7/
Fearing we could get Fake Doom, @jRamos, myself and a few others went to YYZ to confirm Doom came through the arrival gates. We chilled whilst our look out (who knew what Doom looked like) sat by the gates. We got the thumbs up (good look Ace) so dope. Show's on! Or what it? 8/
Showtime: Ppl are pissed b/c they saw the no Mos email late, Doom is again Lauryn Hill late (snowstorm), but gets on stage AFTER sending a Fake Doom 1st
. But his show is 30 mins: his DJ's laptop dies/no b/u. So he spent the last 10ish minutes talking. Then bounced. POOF! 9/

Now it gets interesting: Doom is gone, but road manager sits w/ us chatting about the *show*, and he's kinda apologizing about all that happened. That's when he shares that MF Doom is like... an elaborate Art Project. Huh? 10/
After this debacle, we decided to hit this well known college radio show to discuss all that happened (details). I was blogging at the time, and wrote about the show, and @HipHopDX scooped it off my site: 11/ https://twitter.com/jRamos/status/1344774051588399111
The quote of the show went something like this:
when you book Daniel, you don't always get Doom (in discussing the convo w/ the manager, and how Doom was an art project). I recorded the entire thing, I'll see if I can dig it up. But the entire studio was

So what does this all mean?? Well, when that Instagram post came out yesterday, I was like
: why would I believe this? If Doom wanted to close this chapter of his career, there would be no better time than 2020. 13/

Doom would have turned 50 in January, wasn't touring and had no path to tour prob for another solid year at least. He was 20yrs+ in as Doom, was he gonna keep going at it? So the masked man ends it on Halloween.
. We were told, all his moves are calculated. 14/

Now, he could easily re-enter *society* as civilian Daniel, clean up, get a fade, put on his glasses and trade for a covid mask. No one would recognize him anyways as 99% of his FANS wouldn't know if he stood next to them. 15/ https://twitter.com/black_milk/status/1344807284992520192
MF DOOM was a brilliant art show, a play, and in my head - this was the possibly cruel, but climactic crescendo. The heavy satin curtains falling. So I'm not here confirming this was the greatest script ever, and that Doom is alive... 16/
... I'm going to accept the vox populi in this mournful moment. Certainly not trying to sound like q-anon and cheese pizza, but I am picturing Daniel scrolling through twitter on his iPad smiling. All of this informed by that convo w/ road manager + that show. 17/
LONG LIVE DOOM (all caps).
In closing - I'm smiling in celebration of a hip hop icon. Possibly the
's greatest rap export? Either way, I'm leaving you w/ the above thread, and the @RBMA MF Doom lecture below (in Spain I believe). Enjoy, and HNY.
