Yesterday, we clocked 60% more GMV than last new year’s eve. That’s GMV of ₹75 crores in one single day, with peak orders per minute (OPM) rate of 4,254.
The demand last night was much higher than what we could process. We ran out of delivery partner capacity much before peak time. If we had unconstrained supply, we could have hit ₹100 crores of GMV yesterday. Need to do better next time.
We worked with ~100,000 delivery partners to deliver all these orders yesterday. Thank you so much guys. You all are rockstars. I wish you and your families a very happy new year!
And to our restaurant partners – thank you. The last few months have been amazing. We have all worked as a team, and adapted our operations to the changing environment where food delivery became the primary revenue driver for the restaurant industry.
Failure and customer complaint rates are at an all time low for food delivery in India. This is a testament to the work everyone in the ecosystem has put in to make this a delightful experience for customers.
And to the @zomato team – I loved the intensity with which we executed the biggest day of the year. My heart swells with pride. I am so looking forward to working with you in the year ahead and beyond.
And one last thing. India has arrived. I strongly believe that Indian startups do not need to look out to other countries for growth. There’s tremendous amount of market depth in India.
Generally, what works elsewhere, doesn’t win in India. And what wins in India, doesn’t work elsewhere. #BuildForIndia
