I'm not typically one to post something like this and I'm not usually this sappy. I doubt many will read this, but it seemed more appropriate at the culmination of an abnormal but extraordinary year. I just wanted to state how grateful I am. A thread:
I'm grateful for my wife @paigemmitchell. She inspires me every day. She has a full-time job designing yachts, another full-time job as a stay-at-home mom, she keeps the house, and she hasn't been able to take any time off due to Covid. She truly deserves more love than I show.
I'm grateful for my dad. He faces a battle every day that no one outside of his situation can understand. I know some days the thought of escape weighs heavy, but he keeps fighting. In his darkest moments his only wish is to provide for his family and employees. I love you, Dad.
I'm grateful for my mom. She's the matriarch. She's a caregiver, a business administrator, a mother, and a grandmother. She fills countless roles and rarely shows a crack in the armor. She's the strongest person I know. I'll never understand how she does it all. I love you, Mom.
I'm grateful for my daughter. Beneath the facade I try to display there's a soft-hearted crybaby and Rowan brings that out like nobody else. She has been my beacon in an otherwise gloomy year. I can't wait to meet the person she becomes, but I don't want her to grow up any more.
I'm grateful for my siblings and their significant others. Despite personal challenges in their own lives, they still make time for family. They have all made sacrifices this year beyond what many people experience and I want them to know how much I appreciate all of them.
I'm grateful for some family members that would do anything for us. The idiom "Give the shirt off my back" takes on much less meaning when you have family members that will give you the house where they currently live. I'm not sure where we would be, literally, without them.
I'm grateful for healthcare workers. In the midst of a global pandemic I was still able to be there for the birth of my child and my dad has received nothing but the utmost care from the hospitals, EMS personnel, and transplant house that he has needed this year. #WearAMask
Speaking of the pandemic, I'm grateful for those that are willing to set aside selfish pride and wear a mask. Regardless of whatever pseudoscience you may believe, masks do provide a benefit, even if it's only for the peace of mind of those who can't afford the risk without them.
Last but not least, I'm grateful for friends. Thank you all for reaching out in various ways throughout the year. We look forward to being able to reconnect in the (hopefully) near future.
