So this is where I get a little sappy and shit.
Historically speaking, 2020 wasn’t the worst. But we weren’t alive during the Spanish Flu or when Rome was sacked. We are alive today.
We went from one of the most economically prosperous times in American history to hoping we’d still have a job and buying that last frozen ham in the meat market at Target all within roughly 5 months.
We spent many days, weeks and months trying to sort fact from fiction, hustling up homemade masks, and viewing our fellow humans as potential death threats.
Today we worry about our elderly parents and fret much about how much about them may have deteriorated during isolation.
In short, it was a really fucked up year where the government ostensibly established to defend our liberty has shown little inclination to do so.
But through all that, we had each other. Here, in this forum we love to rage against yet where we faithfully gather to see friends and share details about our lives that even our closest family members don’t know.
As bad as this year was, imagine it without the true friends you’ve met and sustained here.
You have all accepted me warts and all. Through addiction and now in sobriety, I could always count on all of you just as you have for all of us.
I am grateful for each and every one of you and hope that each day you find some degree of peace, reassurance, hope and strength among your friends here just as we depend upon it from you.
Much love to you all, and have a very happy New Year, because 2020 can well and truly go fuck itself with a Tabasco-soaked chainsaw bayonet. ✌🏻
