Good Vibes for 2021.

It’s been a difficult year for so many people in so many different ways but I’m hopeful for a future where everyone is treated equal, no one has to stress, and we can all be together again soon.
I was beyond fortunate to be busy with work throughout 2020 but I did that rookie mistake again of taking on too much and getting burnt out. Pair that with worrying about surviving what felt like the end times and by October I was a shell of a human behind a drawing tablet.
I continued to say “yes” to any project that came through my inbox *just in case* it was the last time I was ever booked again or if mograph stopped existing in a pandemic. Even as things started to smooth out and studios switched more to animation, I still has no balance.
It took me 10 months of the year before I took a break and realized my fears about the state of the world could not be solved by taking on more projects. The work couldn’t save me.

If I learned anything this year it’s that not everything has to be a “yes” project.
In 2021 my singular work goal is balance.

Knowing that it’s okay to not draw in every moment of free time. That it’s okay to have an evening where the fam watches a movie or Tiktok all night cackling at silly things. That it’s okay to have a life outside of work.
I don’t know that anyone has mastered work/life balance being a remote freelancer (especially this year) but I’ll continue trying to think of it as an ongoing project.

It won’t always be perfect, you’ll miss out on some cool ones, but you’ll be healthier all around.
This is all sort of scattered but my wish for you in 2021 and beyond is happiness and health. We’re all figuring this out as we go no matter how busy or successful or cool or whatever a person looks to be on the Internet.

Cheers ✌🏻
