My Top 15 Kanye Songs: A Thread
15-11:

15. Jesus Walks - The College Dropout

14. POWER - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

13. Roses - Late Registration

12. So Appalled - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

11. Blood On The Leaves - Yeezus
10. No More Parties In LA - The Life Of Pablo

When you combine Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Madlib: expect greatness. Kanye absolutely BODIES his verse, floating all over the beat about his LA lifestyle for three minutes straight. Not bad for a producer!
9. Diamonds From Sierra Leone - Late Registration

If you thought the best sample of LR was on Gold Digger, you’d be horribly mistaken. The twinkling beat, the cocky bars, the flawless flow: everything about this track screams star. Kanye had certainly earned that title by now.
8. Bittersweet Poetry - Graduation

Probably the most surprising pick on this list...who knew the cutest beat could make a grown man cry? The pain in Kanye’s voice is almost tangible, and the tequila line is quite possibly my favorite play on words in his whole discography.
7. Runaway - MBDTF

An apologetic West’s harmonious testimony to being a douchebag. Money, sex, fame: Kanye has it all. But at the end of the day, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Also, Anthony Fantano can suck a fat cock for shitting on the vocoder solo.
6. Ghost Town - Ye

The perfect encapsulation of West’s bipolarity. The orchestration of Shirley Ann Lee, Vanilla Fudge, and Mike Dean, the heart-shattering low of Cudi’s chorus and manic high of 070 Shake’s outro, and perhaps the best vocal performance by Kanye...ever?
5. New Slaves - Yeezus

A bold condemnation of racial injustice in the music industry, corporate America, and justice system, intensified by a wild ass beat. Bonus: the outro has made me cum harder than any girl ever has. But then again, I’ve never fucked a Hampton spouse.
4. Saint Pablo - TLOP

The death of egotistical Kanye West. Sounding tired and overwhelmed, the media and money have finally malnourished him. He acknowledges his flaws, pledging himself to God and his people for a chance at redemption. Sampha beautifully reinforces his message.
3. Through The Wire - The College Dropout

An epiphany-driven track emphasizing that nothing in life is guaranteed, including life itself. A classic Kanye beat, sweet Chaka Khan sample, witty bars, and honest delivery: spitting his soul through the wire wasn’t an overstatement.
2. Devil In A New Dress - MBDTF

If Heaven were a beat, this would be it. Merged with Kanye’s not-so-heavenly thoughts translated into miraculous wordplay, this track is a thematically perfect juxtaposition. Add a hard ass Rick Ross verse, and you’ve got yourself a classic.
1. Hold My Liquor - Yeezus

Words can’t even describe how beautifully depressing this shit is, so I’m not even going to try. It’s a truly intoxicating experience from start to finish. When given a choice between despondency and drunkenness, is there any right answer?
