Dear young people. There are seemingly mundane things in life that will make an impact on you and will piss you off for years to come. Sure, you'll live, but you won't enjoy it as much & every time it happens again it will eat away a little at your joy leaving you w/only "WTH?!"
One of these things is when products you enjoy are discontinued. This is particularly true when the discontinued product is far superior to the competitors, yet failed marketing or company management led the way.
A few of the items that I searched for in vane for months, if not years, hoping to find a hidden stash somewhere I could buy:
- Cremora coffee creamer
- Fizzy Lizzy soda
- Santiago olive oil
- Downy's original "April Fresh" formula
- Mahatma Spicy Yellow Rice
All gone.

In the case of Cremora and Fizzy Lizzy, their products were so superior to the competition that I lean towards thinking the government should have taken them over and ensured product for all the generations to come.
Downy still sells "April Fresh" but it's a sickly sweet, nauseating odor. I'm not alone in my feelings about it. Literally thousands took to their website to beg, plead, yell, and curse at them. Their response "Too bad. Sorry. We're not going back."

My guess, it has something to do with some rare, exotic flower being eliminated due to overharvesting by slave labor in China.
Otherwise, WTF would @ProcterGamble have done it? It was one of the most beloved products in the country.
I haven't purchased a Downy product since.

At least with Fizzy Lizzy and Cremora I have a pretty good idea what happened, which is that the retailers were bought off by competitors for better product placement in the stores. These products were always relegated to the bottom shelves or were so high I couldn't reach them.
Fizzy Lizzy, by @whiterockbev made a cranberry soda that was out of this world. I tried to order cases of it at @TheFreshMarket but was rudely rebuffed, repeatedly. When I realized I'd never find any more I saved 1 bottle in my fridge, but only because I don't have a wine cellar
That bottle expired some time ago because I couldn't bear to drink the last of it and know that no more existed. So, there it sits... in my fridge... a sad reminder of a small joy lost.
The product currently on my mind, however, has me puzzled. It's by a large, well-known company, so marketing isn't an issue. It had great product placement. And, in an era of Flaming Hot everything, you telling me @MahatmaRiceUSA that you couldn't sell spicy rice?
The one thing that might've done it was the packaging. There was just a subtle "spicy" added to the existing yellow rice label so many people may never have noticed it.
I can now buy a 5 oz bag of it, previously about 99 cents, for $7 on Amazon, plus shipping.

And... that's another thing. I've seen this happen so many times before yet I never capitalize on it. Some see the dwindling supply and buy up all they can then sell on Amazon for a very hefty profit. I don't know if I haven't thought of it, or if it's just too sad a thing to do.
By the time I realized that I would never again find Borden Cremora on store shelves it was already going for $100+ per case, $10 per container, on Amazon.
