The Arizona State Prison Complex in Yuma is in the midst of the largest outbreak in the state’s system. More than 600 inmates tested positive last week.

When inmates come in for treatment, guards accompany them in the ICU, but Wright said they weren’t given N95s.
Wright sent an email to management about this (and much more) in Oct.

She was then called into the office after a shift and told her email “went all the way up” and she was not to do something like that again.

Here’s a portion:
Another note: Wright was told she “upset the warden” by sending her initial email expressing concern. The warden, Edwin Jensen, died on Dec. 19 after a stay at YRMC.

The Yuma County Medical Examiner’s Office would not determine a cause of death due to “federal privacy rules.”
As concerns grew among staff, Wright said nurses were asked to write them, along with any questions, on a whiteboard in the ICU lounge, which you can read from below.
In addition, Wright said this summer the hospital required an outside auditor to confirm family relations of staff members or they would be taken off of their health insurance plans.

They confirmed this to me, but described it as a routine practice to cut costs.
Wright also told me when the first surge started, she recalled management telling nurses to take their masks off because they were “inciting panic” among patients.

The hospital said their protocol has evolved as CDC guidelines have.
There’s more in the story, which I highly recommend you read to get a sense of what some healthcare workers are going through right now.
