A thread to finish off 2020, for no real reason.

Some of my favourite sporting moments of all time.

@jarrowarrow vs Said Aouita, 1985

Cram was a great and to see a fellow Arab run him close was a big deal
@MJGold 200m WR 1996

Sticking with athletics, this was the most magical moment on the track I had ever witnessed. Yes, it's since been smashed by Usain Bolt, but for people of my generation nothing felt so miraculous. And those shoes!
Lomu vs England

When the great man died a few years ago I looked up some videos of his and had forgotten how graceful he was. But my memory was trampled by this performance against England in 1995 world cup the way he trampled over Mike Catt.
Mike Tyson vs Buster Douglas

It is still a shocker. It still doesn't make sense. And though Douglas never reached this level of performance again, this was no fluke. He completely outboxed @MikeTyson for all but 10 seconds when he was down.
@SteveSnooker vs @dennistaylor147 1985

The greatest final frame in the history of snooker in arguably the greatest match. Steve Davis was the best player in the world by some distance. He was leading massively. But then..Steve Davis still one of my favs.
Boris Becker, Wimbledon 1985

I got into tennis because of @TheBorisBecker and this tournament. I was only 9 but I decided then that if I was going to play tennis it was going to be like him. The first power player that led to a whole generation like him.
@MuhammadAli lighting the Olympic torch

Muhammad Ali was my sporting hero. I loved him. However, his greatest moments in the ring happened before I was born. But this moment made me cry, literally. The great man was still the greatest and still my hero.

@J_Ennis London 2012 Olympics

Some athletes and some moments just feel right. Jessica Ennis-Hill at the 2012 Olympics is one of those. It was meant to be more than anyone since Cathy Freeman at the Sydney Olympics. Amazing

Tiger Woods 1997 Masters

Up until this point, golf was a sport I was going to take up after I retired. @TigerWoods and this event in particular (his rookie year) changed my mind. That day changed the history of golf and we knew it at the time.
@Daley_thompson 1984 Olympic decathlon champion

One of my earliest sporting memories was watching Daley Thompson winning his second Olympic gold. Arguably Britain's greatest ever sportsman. Also, he would definitely be everyone's favourite uncle.
England vs Poland 1986 World Cup

This was the first game I remember watching at this world cup. England had to win to qualify and didn't they just. 3-0, with all three coming from @GaryLineker. I think it was the first time I really cheered on a sporting event.
Steffi Graf vs @mhingis 1999 Roland Garros

By this point Steffi Graf was no longer the number one tennis player in the world. That belonged indisputably to her opponent Martina Hingis. There were ladies matches that were better, not many as dramatic.
@rogerfederer 2017 Australian Open Champion

He was never going to win another grand slam ever, they said. He was out for 6 months. He couldn't could he? He could. Federer is the greatest tennis player of all time, I am willing to fight anyone on this.
Spurs vs Ajax 2019

As a @SpursOfficial fan, I am not sure any footballing event could top this. It was just that we made it to the Champions League final. It was the manner. We were second best against a phenomenal Ajax team.
@ronaldo vs Lazio 1998

Ronaldo is a couple of months older than me and so when he burst onto the scene as a 17 year old I was mesmerised. There is a lot to pick from but I watched this live and it was just a breathtaking showing.
Italia 90

Slightly offbeat this one. Italia 90 is often considered one of the weakest tournaments by football historians. I'm willing to accept I'm wrong on this, but it's my favourite. Pavarotti, Schillachi, Gazza's tears, Baggio, the last West Germany
@JonnyWilkinson 2003 World Cup Drop goal

Not many in rugby as great as this man and this moment was one of the greatest. The best team at the world cup (England) being held by an inferior side in extra time and then last kick of the game. Brilliant drama
England vs Holland 1996 Euros

Terry Venables, @alanshearer, Gazza, Teddy Sheringham . What a summer that was and what a tournament. This match was the best England performance I had seen up tothat point (maybe ever).
@DarrenClarke60 winning The Open 2011

Sometimes someone wins that makes us all happy. A seemingly nice guy, down to earth, excellent professional who was past his best. Other moments on this list leave you open mouthed, few leave you smiling as much.
@andy_murray wins Wimbledon

The only other man in my mind that competes with Daley Thompson as Britain's greatest sportsman. And this is the moment that cemented his place. I couldn't sit down in that final set, almost kicking the tv several times.
I could have included so many more and pretty certain I've forgotten some. @GlennHoddle was my favourite footballer growing up, but don't remember seeing many of his best moments at the time (moving to Monaco in 1987 didn't help me). But I am certainly not sad about this list.
Also, regrettably not enough female sporting moments here. Unfortunately I mainly watched men's sport growing up, with the exception of tennis and athletics. One I almost added was Flo jo at the 1988 Olympics. But it just didn't feel ok.
