Here's a personal thread of the games, movies, and TV that helped me through 2020 (whether they came out this year or not). Ranked in no particular order.
DOOM ETERNAL -- ID's previous DOOM entry dared to push the limits of modern arena shooters. DOOM Eternal dares to push the limits of DOOM. And it largely succeeds, with gloriously white-knuckling, vein-bursting over-the-top action.
THE INVISIBLE MAN is significant to me as it was the first and last theater experience I had in 2020. Every time I think about how much I miss the theater, I end up thinking of this movie. It's a decent flick, so check it out.
BLACK SAILS -- I love me a mature take on the Golden Age of Piracy, and that's basically what this was, with Treasure Island mixed in. Fantastic characters, incredible production value, and blissful escapism. Going to be revisiting this a bunch in the future.
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS -The final season made my year simply for the triumphant return of my favorite show from when I was kid. The final 4 episodes are peak Star Wars. Ahsoka's journey helped me process a lot of my own journey in 2020.
THE LAST OF US: PART II-- Moreso than any piece of art I've ever experienced, TLOU2 is a test of empathy; a mesmerizing exploration of the beautiful highs and hideous lows people are capable of. I think it has defined me more than anything else that came out this year.
FALL GUYS/ AMONG US/ PHASMOPHOBIA -- Three brilliant multiplayer games that helped distract me from my spiraling mental health in the late summer/early fall. Hoping to find more excuses to play these in the future.
DA 5 BLOODS -- Possibly Spike Lee's best film. It's all of his usual wit and humor with a mature, almost somber edge. Delroy Lindo's performance is unforgettable. The right film to watch after the passing of Chadwick Boseman, which hit me pretty hard (and still does).
THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT - BLOOD AND WINE -- It may surprise my friends to know I never beat the DLC for The Witcher 3 when it came out. Boy do I regret that. A beautiful, epic video game recreation of mythical fables and fairy-tales.
STAR WARS SQUADRONS-- The type of game that justifies why games exist. Unabashedly escapist, thrilling dogfights with beautiful audio/visual design and a surprisingly great story.
ASASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA/ WATCH DOGS LEGION -- Two solid, surprisingly well-crafted and innovative open world games from Ubisoft. Valhalla's first hour shocked the hell out of me. Legion's NPC mechanic never gets boring. Now if only I had time to finish them...
SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES -- It's every bit as electric as 2018's Spider-Man, if not a bit more punctual for the shortened length of the story. Nadji Jeter is phenomenal as Miles. Hit all the right buttons for me emotionally. Felt like the right game to reflect on 2020 with.
THE MANDALORIAN: SEASON 2 -- Beyond the nerdtacular guest appearances of some of my favorite SW characters, Season 2 puts an emotionally satisfying spin on a story of growth and empathy through brilliant action, flavor, and heart. This is the way.
CYBERPUNK 2077 -- Though I'm still working my way through it (glitches & all), it's equally fascinating and disturbing how close Cyberpunk's distant megacorporate future feels, especially in 2020. A dazzling monument to how people persevere in a society designed to suppress them.
TENET -- Christopher Nolan may be my homie, but Tenet is the lone film of 2020 that delightfully invites its viewers to participate in its spectacle. Beautifully shot and masterfully edited. I see plenty of rewatches in my future... or in a certain way, my past

That's everything worth mentioning! Grateful for such an amazing year for games, and for the exceptional movies and shows I did get to catch.
This year was a bludgeon to my mental health and forward momentum in life. Hoping to repair both of those things in 2021.
Much love
