I heard from many ABns this year angered & frustrated by the actions of Jason Kenney & the UCP but feeling powerless & asking what they could do.
My 1st answer was always to speak out & protest - loudly & often, in emails to gov't, on social media, letters to the editor. #ableg

And you know what? It had an effect.
It's because 1000s of Albertans organized, wrote emails & letters, put up signs & showed up at virtual townhalls that @jkenney, @JasonNixonAB & the UCP seems to have backed down on their plans to sell parks.

It's because Alberta doctors spoke out - in the press, to their patients, community leaders & local MLAs - and thousands of Albertans did the same, that Jason Kenney is now belatedly, quietly taking small steps to reach an agreement w/ them.

To be clear - these are small steps & we can't relent. This isn't a gov't we can trust to follow through.
But it shows that, despite the bravado of the Premier, Ministers & their legion of issues managers, determined efforts by Albertans united can make a dent. #ableg

I also recognize these are only a couple of issues out a blizzard of toxic policy & legislative changes the UCP forced through in 2020 under cover of a pandemic - itself a major area where they've failed Albertans by prioritizing Jason Kenney's ideology & political goals. #ableg
It's far more than the average Albertan can keep up with & fight against.
That's why we're here as Official Opposition, why we continue to push back & speak out - to shine a light on how the UCP are hurting our province & all who live in it.

Jason Kenney, the UCP, their army of issue managers - they all want you to feel it's hopeless to resist, to fight back.
It isn't. You can. We can. Together. That's the lesson I'm taking from 2020 & the spirit I'm bringing into 2021.

I won't sugarcoat it - this will take time. There's no way to remove Jason Kenney & the UCP before 2023. But the work to make that happen is happening now.

There's lots of ways to fight back against Jason Kenney in 2021. Work with & support us. Look for & support activists & advocates in in your community. Support progressive candidates in the municipal election to thwart the UCP's attempts to stack councils w/ their friends. #ableg
The power is in our hands if we're determined & dogged enough to keep pushing for better & fighting for change.
That's what I stand for. That's what @RachelNotley stands for. That's why I'm proud to stand with the @albertaNDP.
