1/ Some medium-term predictions for Ethereum as we head into a new year.

2021 will be the year of rollups. Much of the research and effort going into optimistic and zk rollups will find true main-stream use on the Ethereum main network.

2021 will also be the year of staking.
2/ Nearly all of the major exchanges will offer Ethereum staking services, and staking-focused companies will emerge as well. I say we'll see between 10-30 million ETH staked by the end of 2021.

2021 will also be the year of stablecoins.
3/ We'll see much more uptake of stablecoins like USDC, being used by retail consumers for basic payments, and being used by businesses. Circle and Visa have some exciting plans. This is the year normal people will be able to use stablecoins for normal things!
4/ 2022 will be the year of sharding. 2022 is when we'll see sharding delivered, and Ethereum 1 and 2 will merge. Proof of work will be turned off, and rollups will be super-charged with their new proof-of-stake and sharding infrastructure.

Ethereum will then be near complete
5/ Competitors to Ethereum really need to get going in 2021 and 2022 if they wish to succeed in having anywhere near the success of Ethereum...otherwise, why wouldn't Ethereum just suck their users and apps in?

Ethereum will be very powerful around 2022-2023.
6/ Of course, if a competitor comes around that can blow the status quo blockchain algorithms out of the water with decentralization, scalability, or security...it might not matter when that launches (Internet Computer?)
