Anyone else surprised you made it to the end of 2020? I experienced some truly scary moments, white-knuckled my way through and kept my eye to the viewfinder and pressed on.
I’d face just about anything with my co-workers at @NC5 because I know we cover the news that matters in a year that matters.
Many days this year left me exhausted. But I was glad to march alongside protesters to document the history of our time. A cache of N95s from a home project came in handy this year too.
Each protest was different. One included a brass band and dance party followed by a record number of THP arrests.
As if am the Nashville Tornado passing by my house wasn’t enough I volunteered to cover two hurricanes, Laura and Delta, for our sister station KATC
Hurricane Delta meant @LeviAIsmail & I couldn’t find a meal for 2 days. Sorry @nc5 but the hotel snack / dinner included the most expensive personal-size pizza ever. 1 meal I’ll never forget the the first following non-stop Delta coverage. Won’t forget the cot either
Next was the @BelmontUniv Prez Debate. Received the best swag bag. The @HatchShowPrint included was a keeper.
This photo at 1st was not a big 2020 event. Its what happened immediately after. It here when a man pulled a gun on me because I was the “liberal media.” I haven’t exited a scene faster or smoothly in my life. The outcome to this incident may be decided in 2021.
Looking down the barrel of a pistol changes you. But it did not change how I worked. I white-knuckled my way through “stop the steal” rally’s and protests. Because covering the news matters. Journalism matters.
The Christmas Bombing in Nashville cut my vacation short a day and led to a week of non-stop work that I am proud to do with a team I am proud to work with. @nc5
As this year comes to an end I want to thank my co-workers for all they gave this year. From @mbonnett5 pushing people out of my way during a violent protest to Mike Rose keeping is motivated and geared up and leading my example. And a big thanks to Dillon our security detail.
To end, nothing is possible without the help of my wife and daughter. I couldn't be out in it without their support.
Thread thumbed from my phone so excuse the mistakes and bad grammar
