2020 has been a tough one for a lot of people, I’ve lost and lost out on a lot this year, and I contemplated not celebrating what has gone well, but here we are. A thread.
January: I performed and spoke on panels at the Mathrubhhumi International Festival of Letters, India. At home I won the Potential Unlocked ‘Influential Leader in Education’ Award.
February:
Jaxon Cooper Bailey was born. There are no words for this kind of blessing. Some amazing work stuff happened in Feb too... but who cares... REALLY!
March: I was invited to be one of the judges @Uni_Slam 😍. What a blessing.

I also signed the contract for my first ever play! GrimeBoy is coming in 2021 🍾

*I also decided I’m a DIY don and built my sons this playhouse*
April: I found out that @PoetryBrum had accepted this poem! 😍
May:

The poem that I had written and performed for @BBCOne @ThePeakyBlinder won an international award.

( @TheWebbyAwards) 🍾

Then I got an email from @BurningEyeBooks saying my next poetry collection would have a home with them in 2021!!
June:

I released music for the first time in years, and I’m not looking back. Change dropped on June 10th which would have been my mom’s 59th birthday. ❤️
July:

@ST3AMCo invited me to be the writer in residence at their Art Camp, as it looked like the days of lockdown were ending. Here I am at my residence for the weekend!

I also checked my barber for the first time in 6 months... 👀
August:

I was named the @BrumChamber Future Face of Arts and Culture.

🍾🍾🍾
September:

I released my second song of the year. “Stop Drill” - it isn’t what it says on the cover.
October:

I was named the Birmingham Poet Laureate.
November:

I took a team of Brum Town legends and recorded poetry on the beautiful Symphony Hall stage. (Thank you @THSHBirmingham @chrisproctor86 @richardjloftus @Think_write_fly @JasmineGardosi @JessMayDavies)
December:

I dropped my final song of the year, 2020.

Also... @ace_national agreed to support my theatre writing next year.
So...

In many ways this year has been horrible, but I will continue to push to do the best that I can...

This thread leaves a lot out, some amazing, some horrendous... but there you have it. Couple highlights.

Stay safe and well next year, look after each other and yourselves
