clearing up lucas' fatphobia controversy and kun's colorism controversies from a few months ago: from a chinese person (my two parents are chinese, i speak both english and chinese, i have frequent trips back to china and interactions with my chinese relatives)
starting off with xuxi. his comments towards kun were in NO WAY intended to be fatphobic. for example, in chinese, we use the phrase "小胖胖“ as an endearing term to a child which translates to "little fat cutie." this is a cultural thing for chinese/HK/TW people, not fatphobic.
ten's insistence of drawing kun as a pig also wasn't intended to be fatphobic. pigs are considered very lucky animals in chinese culture, so y'all sent him hate and attacked him for complimenting kun. once again, it's a cultural thing
people were also coming after kun for his "colorist" comments. for example, in chinese we say "你的皮肤很黑“ which translates to "your skin is very black/dark." 黑 is a color but it also doubles as a degree indicator (light vs. dark). its an observation. not a colorist comment-
you can't take things like this literally because in chinese it means "you got tan!"
lastly, stop framing shit in a western pov. non-chinese people had NO business spreading all this misinfo without listening to weishennies/chinese people. if you're going to speak on this, you've gotta take a look at chinese culture first.
