As this carnival of a year finally collapses in on itself I know that for all of the horror, anxiety, grief and loss, I can look back and remember a lot of good stuff, too
I've been so very lucky to work with old friends and new, to share resources and experience with an amazing community of art people, and to have in some small ways helped folks navigate, create and access new digital worlds (whether they’re old hands or complete newbies)
Through all this, I’ve learned incredible things, worked with exceptional people and discovered new ways of being together without being together
This year more artists have made performance using technology than ever before. I hope we continue to work with these tools (and new ones yet invented), discovering their biases and boundaries, building new experiences and a better understanding of our hybrid on/off-line world
See, I trust art makers more than technology vendors. So maybe it’s up to us to build something better, to stretch connection and humanness through distance and crisis, to open access and experiences to everyone, to stick 2 fingers up to inequality & embrace difference. No biggie
HNY everyone
