From beginning to end, 2020 has been an awful year to be transgender in the UK. The hostility & scaremongering has never let up. Transphobia seems to have become more & more normalised, endorsed, & rewarded by the UK press, the UK law, & the UK establishment. /1
At times I myself h felt like I'm swimming in an acid-bath of lies and slurs and defamation. The misunderstandings & the bias agst transgender people get more grotesque all the time: again & again we are the demons of the piece merely for existing. /2
It was weird to go to NZ as an Erskine Fellow for 2 months in the spring, & get a time out from this toxic atmosphere; it helped me see just how trans-toxic the UK really is now.
But despite it all, we're still here, & we're not going away. /3

We'll tell you as many times as we h to th transgender people are born, not made. That we are, as such, not even the slightest threat to anyone else at all. Th transgender is not an ism or an ideology or a lifestyle choice or a sexual fetish: it's another way of being human. /4
From the beginning of our lives to the end of our lives, transgender people h the same right to exist, & to seek the expression & the fulfilment of our distinctive natures, w medical support where appropriate, as anyone else.
Trans is not just permitted. Trans is beautiful. /5

I see the price that transgender people pay for this society's cruelty to them. And I will always speak out to protest against that, and to support and defend and encourage them.
If you are transgender, I'm on your side. And I always will be. /ends
