For obvious reasons there's a lot of negativity towards 2020 as the year draws to a close, but personally speaking I had lots of good times this year. In food terms alone, I did pretty well. Here's a thread!
The year started with me leaving my job of 10 years. For a goodbye meal we went to Uno Mas and it was wonderful.
I took a week off between jobs and had an investor gluttonous run of eating out. The Tuesday started in @leperroquet_dub for lunch:
I thought that was plenty for one day, but a certain well-known chef who plies his trade in the Mount Merrion area had other ideas (cough @MichaelsCoDub) and before I knew it I was off to @alltawinebar (via Kehoes, obviously):
We started sensibly enough, but then some new guests joined our table and, well, the photos start to get blurry. I entirely blame @BallymakennyF and @eannahassett
The next day was..."challenging". Hearty lunch was needed, so @SOUPramen1 to the rescue.
That evening we sampled the early bird in @VolpeNeraDublin and managed to get in and out in time to collect the girls from creche. We thought we might do that regularly, but in early Feb we had no idea...
The following day I met a friend who was also between jobs for a week and we had lunch at @mrfoxrestaurant. It was very civilised, and we chatted about this and that, including this new virus being reported in China. "I'm not worried", says I...
The end of this calorie-laden week saw us visiting an old favourite. Lunch in @_the_GREENHOUSE is always a treat, and this was no exception.
Then I was off to Montreal for 2 weeks. I assure poutine and saw lots of snow
I arrived back from Canada to discover my wife stockpiling tins and bottled water. She insisted I drag my jetlagged carcass to Little Mike's as it might be our last chance for a while. "I think you're overreacting", says I, but I'm not one to turn down a platter (bad photo!)
And then? Well, then things changed a bit. But at least the weather was nice so we could drink outside, and we could always count on @MichaelsCoDub to goad us into silliness. Breakfast boozing anyone?
Then the takeaways and boxes started. @alltawinebar, @LiathRestaurant, @MichaelsCoDub all featured. Somewhere along the line we started to become obsessed with @BallymakennyF potatoes, and we bought an @OoniHQ
By this stage Covid cases were decreasing sand everything was looking better for the second half of the year. Maybe restaurants and pubs will reopen. That might need a new thread...
(Also, Twitter really needs an edit function. Look at all those typos and autocorrect errors. GAH!!)
