The move by Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley to demand a Congressional vote on the electoral college results is very bad news for @marcorubio and @CarlosGimenezFL, as they will now be forced to publicly choose between their loyalty to @realDonaldTrump or defending American democracy.
No matter how they vote they will face intense criticism for either turning their back on the President or for being sycophants who denied reality.
@MaElviraSalazar has contracted COVID and will miss the historic vote on January 6.
For @marcorubio the stakes are incredibly high. If he votes against the President it could lead to a primary challenge next year from the right. (There have been some reports that even Ivanka Trump, who is moving to Florida, may be interested in challenging Rubio.)
For @CarlosGimenezFL the stakes are equally dangerous. If he sides with the President then it will undermine his pledge to be less partisan. But if he abandons the President he will infuriate Trump voters in his district and Gimenez could face his own Republican primary.
