Okay, I'm going to have a little rant here. I've always wrestled over whether or not to share screenshots, or quote tweets, of the bigotry I receive on this site from fellow Christians. Part of me fears it's unchristlike because it may encourage others to pile onto them, and part
of me doesn't want to amplify their bigotry. But, I realized something today that made me to decide to continue to share these offensive tweets.

I have heard countless times, both before and after coming out, that LGBTQIA people aren't actually the targets of mistreatment from
Christians. It usually comes in the form of gaslighting..."we are loving the sinner, but hating the sin", or you're just being irrational or emotional bc you're "in sin". That our offense with their words is really just offense w/ God, because they're just "speaking His truth
in love". This allows them cover to spew bigotry while blaming us for being offended by the bigotry.
Part of the problem, though, lies in the fact that many Christians don't know any LGBTQIA people, especially trans people. Why is that? Because the church in America has created
Part of the problem, though, lies in the fact that many Christians don't know any LGBTQIA people, especially trans people. Why is that? Because the church in America has created
their own little bubbles, and that typically doesn't include LGBTQIA people since most have long been driven out or made to feel unwelcome. It's hard to see others being mistreated when the "others" aren't even part of your sphere.
2020 has been a brutal year for the entire world, but strangely it's been the best year of my life. Part of that is because of #WCT and countless other Christians who have loved and accepted me, even when they may not understand or even agree.
But, I do believe we have a major

blind-spot in the church regarding LGBTQIA people (race as well, but that's a different topic). If my tiny voice can shine a light on how many within the church mistreat LGBTQIA people, then I have an obligation to use it.
My hope is that by sharing these bigoted attacks, that

others will see mistreatment that they may not have even known existed and that it will lead to empathy.

We need to increase the sizes of our bubbles, and we do all have a bubble. So please, follow more LGBTQIA people and listen. You don't need to agree, but listen and learn. We all need to follow more people that aren't like us.
Rant over.
