I know everyone is eager to usher out this year, myself included. But I'll remember it, fondly, for so many reasons, and this picture symbolizes why... 🧵
We entered the year still learning to adapt to my son's complex genetic diagnosis, were coming out of one major surgery, and had a few more looming. In March, we were a couple hours away in Philly for the biggest, a major skull and brain procedure...
While he was recovering, we had a visit from hospital staff informing us his grandparents had to leave because of new Covid visitor restrictions. We left the hospital a week later, but unfortunately ended up right back there three weeks later because of a staph infection...
It was infuriating that a physician's misjudgement caused them to open his skull back up, and we ended up having to spend another three weeks there. Including the day in this picture... my son's first birthday.

My son, slowly approaching 2 years old, can't yet crawl due to hypotonia. His genetic deletion has delayed his speech, motor function, and a lot more. But not his joy. Or my wife's...
Who along with me coordinated working full time, tons of doctors appointments, over 500 therapy appointments (god bless New York's early intervention program), and additional therapy provided by us. She even managed to get a huge promotion in the process.
2020 sucked, but it will always be a reminder of how my family responded, and not just survived but thrived (with the help of so many people who reminded us just how strongly in our corner they are, even if we can't see many of them.)
I'm sure there will be more shitty times down the road, and whenever they come I hope I look at this picture, smile like the both of them, and get right back to work like I did this year. I also hope I get to continue a lot of that work in my pjs. Happy new year y'all.
