They were 198 homicides in DC in 2020. An almost 20% increase from last year & the most in the past 15 years. My hope is that in 2021 @MayorBowser & @councilofdc will finally invest in evidence-based community solutions to #EndGunViolence and #KeepDCAlive @MomsDemand.
This includes listening to the communities most impacted by gun violence, creating a comprehensive strategy, providing trauma-informed care to survivors, investing in community-based solutions to address root cause issues & using alternative to police approaches to public safety.
A #VisionZero for gun violence in DC is possible and I'm hoping that 2021 is the year that the city finally takes bold steps to reimagine public safety and makes it a reality. @MomsDemand #KeepDCAlive
