I'm looking into resources available for people who may experience power outages during the severe weather expected tomorrow. The Red Cross recommends MO's DHSS warming centers map but call first! Many libraries and community centers are closed right now. https://mogov.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=fdba8e0ee9cf45fe83ed6c644e7b2bcb
. @KCLibrary is closed through January 3rd. https://kclibrary.org/blog/library-pausing-operations-over-holidays-due-local-covid-19-cases
All @MCPLMO branches will close at 5:00 p.m. on December 31 and reopen on January 2. The buildings are not open to the public, the libraries are doing curbside service because of the pandemic.
A spokesperson for @CityOfIndepMO says they have emergency plans in place that include warming centers when needed for power outages caused by storms. Those plans have not been activated but they are closely monitoring the situation and will share more info when available.
Sugar Creek Mayor Mike Larson says they may use the Mike Onka Memorial Bldg as a warming center if needed but it does not have a backup generator. The public safety training center does but capacity would be limited.
