sad to see flash go
years back I was working as a library page and making flash games for fun. A friend of mine ( @NoelFB) got a sponsorship for one of his games, and I remember saying to my parents "look! you can make money doing this! can I quit my job and make games?"

to which they replied "sure, once you make money on a flash game"
so I put a game together in 3 days over thanksgiving, got a $400 sponsorship for it, and quit my job. I made flash games for years afterward, using it to help pay for my living expenses at college

making those games was a better software development education than my university degree, and everything I made I was able to make for free. Each game was a time & effort investment and nothing more; perfect for a kid with nothing but time.
I'm not sure how you do that today without flash, but I hope the young developers out there find something similar. I've never had so much fun and learned so much as in my days making flash games.
