Most vaccine reactions are to the inactive ingredients. Manufacturers have gone to lengths to decrease known allergens, but ingredients such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polysorbate help keep drugs and vaccines water soluble.
Turns out polyethylene glycol is in lots of vaccines and drugs
Same with polysorbate. As an aside the tables in this article are super useful. #AIMedEd
The funniest part, is that they outlined diff b/t vagal reactions and anaphylaxis (presumably for the non A&I readership).
Finally, they outline some suggestions for testing prior to first dose based on disclosure of prior allergy to a known component
and expanded evaluation if reaction to a first dose
Finally, this is a pre-print, so check the actual final document in event there are changes/errors. Thanks to the authors @KimberlyBlumen1 @AleenaBanerjiMD @PaigeWickner @rebeccasaff @AnnaBanana528 and others for putting this out there so quickly!
