Sometimes I feel a little wistful about how little I have retained in an absolute sense from all the books I have read. Everything leaves a trace of an impression, but it seems like years of authorial effort should have made a more significant dent.
I also sometimes think about how a single bookcase of particularly dense books could occupy a lifetime of study. I have... several bookcases. Of course, there are hundreds of graphic novels and things I read as a teenager in there along with the textbooks and technical material.
An artificial intelligence that can make a thorough query of all its past experience in light of current circumstances, instead of relying on limited associative recall will have significant advantages.
