Age doesn’t necessarily provide wisdom, but it does provide perspective. I’ve never been that bothered about New Year, but one thing that I have grown to appreciate it that it is always a good point in time to re-set and to remind ourselves of what’s truly important in life.

Many people become introspective at New Year, looking back at what they’ve done and what they’ve not done. Sometimes with regret. Sometimes with renewed energy and vigour. Whilst this energy can always be channelled positively, it can also be channelled negatively.

What life has taught me is this: There will always be good times, there will always be bad times and then there will always be all the shit in between. And what age has given me in terms of perspective is to never let the highs get too high and never let the lows get too low

No matter how dark or bleak a place you find yourself in, there will always be a way forward. You just have to keep your eyes open to the opportunities. And age has also taught me to respect and appreciate those around me – whether life-long friends or brief acquaintances.

Take the positives from every interaction and every relationship. Keep your eyes, mind and heart open to learn from other people. And be prepared to make mistakes. But never, ever give up on your hopes and your dreams. Keep everything in perspective but keep going!
