Good shows I watched in 2020 [a thread]

.) Ted Lasso (AppleTV): a joy and a balm to this shitty shitty year. It is perfection, 5 stars, 10/10. I can’t accurately express how much I loved it in one tweet, but I would recommend it without hesitation to absolutely everyone.
.) The Mandalorian (Disney+): they took what was great about season one and ran with it in season two. Joyful, fun television rules once again.
.) Last Chance U (Netflix): I’ve loved every season of this show, but season five is its best by far. Seeing a coach that is not a jerk is refreshing and it allows the stories of the players (and the city of Oakland) to shine, rather than be overshadowed by one dude’s ego.
.) How To with John Wilson (HBO Max): a surprise last minute entry on my list. I heard of it and watched all of it in the same day. Even with its (intentionally) awkward moments, it has a lot of heart, is genuinely funny and I may have even learned a thing or two.
.) The Great (Hulu): I feel like I watched this years ago but have confirmed it was actually only about six months ago. The acting and writing are superb. I was both entertained and extremely uncomfortable, often simultaneously, which was the point (I hope 😅).
.) The Boys (Prime Video): basically the opposite of Ted Lasso. Violent and shocking and all of the characters are terrible in their own way so it makes for really good TV. It’s probably the most accurate portrayal of what life would be like if superheroes existed.
.) Alice in Borderland (Netflix): another recent entry as it just came out this month, but it was unique and well-executed enough to make the list. Lots of twists so nothing is what it seems. Super violent as well, so be warned.
.) Stath Lets Flats (HBO Max): it’s so weird and so good. It made me laugh more than anything else has this year. I’ve just read they’re doing an American remake of it so watch it before that happens.
.) The Great Pottery Throw Down (HBO Max): if you like GBBO you’ll also enjoy this. The contestants and judges (one of whom cries regularly when he sees beautiful pottery being made) are lovely. I feel like I learned a lot about pottery-making as well.
.) Never Have I Ever (Netflix): another show I feel like I watched several years ago at this point, so I honestly can’t remember a lot of detail but I do remember how much I enjoyed it (a lot).
.) Harley Quinn (HBO Max): Harley dumps the clown and gets her own crew (and a better love interest). Not a cartoon for the kids but definitely for the adults who grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series.
