A very bad day for Cambridge case numbers, with several areas of the city recording their highest rates so far. The east of the city remains worst affected, but it's not looking good anywhere. 137 new cases were reported today, bringing the total for Cambridge to over 3,000.
Arbury, Coleridge, Petersfield, and Trumpington all now have rates above 400 per 100k population, turning them purple on the map for the first time. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map
Things are a good deal worse in many parts of London and Essex, however. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map
At the moment, cases in Cambridge are highest amongst the under-60s. They have now exceeded the rate during the November "student spike", and are climbing rapidly. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Cambridge
As of yesterday, there were 95 Covid patients in Addenbrooke's, 19 of them on mechanical ventilation. This compares to 64 and 10 a week earlier. Twenty were admitted on Sunday, the largest one-day total so far. There aren't yet as many patients as during the first wave, though.
It surely won't be long, though. It looks like we have some grim times coming in January.
