Lucky and grateful that my family and I remained employed + healthy through 2020, avoiding the suffering experienced by so many. So, I will do something out of character and not grumble about 2020. I feel guilty it was so good to me all things considered. A few highlights: 1/
1) I got to spend a lot of time with my wonderful girlfriend. We started dating a few months before the pandemic. You get to know someone real quick when they are the only human you interact with in-person for months. Thanks for not dumping me! 2/
2) The Buffalo Bills are actually good this year! And, they are entertaining to watch! I just wish I could've attended some home games and watched people break some tables #BillsMafia 3/
3) Some decent professional highlights: 4 pubs, 6 R&Rs, and more good stuff in the pipeline; my cites finally got going after a lot of previous frustration; won some awards and funding; administered surveys to 60,000 people so that I got to do some pretty important research 4/
Alas, still no job talks. 2021 will likely be my make or break year in academia. Change is coming one way or another. After having spent so much of my life on this path, that scares the shit out of me. So I'll give one half-hearted cheer for 2020. It could have been worse! 5/
