Some thoughts that are tangentially related to New Years Resolutions, a thread. Anticipate apps and my personal opinions from my experience, not a professional recommendation of any sort.
If you like apps, consider downloading a self-care app. I use @GetTheFabulous and pay for the premium version. It's great at starting small, creating goals, helping you celebrate, and more. Several of the ideas in this thread come from this app.
Set goals instead of committing to a task or habit with the expectations of going from 0 to 60 overnight. If your goal is "I want to meditate every day," you can start with "I want to learn how to meditate" first. And every day is the perfect day to start or adjust.
Exercise! It's a celebration of what your body can do. It is not a punishment for that donut you ate. Related, donuts and sweets are great as rewards and celebrations for accomplishments like running a marathon or eating three decent meals.
Sleep is so great, y'all. Many of us struggle with it. A simple new year's project could be tracking your sleep and reviewing it every week or so. Tracking and reviewing are the first steps to making changes and commitments. This goes with eating and budgets, too.
Want to eat better? Consider a food journal of some kind. I'm an app person, so I use @youateapp. Take a photo of my food, mark it On Path or Off Path, and review how I felt afterward. You don't have to track calories to improve how you eat. Being mindful does a lot.
Journals are so great. I keep several. My favorite: gratitude journals. Get a notebook or journal that you genuinely like and want to use, and write three things you're grateful for every evening (that you remember to). Missing days is expected.
Gratitude Journals continued: Be as oddly specific as you want. You don't have to write grand truths, and nothing is too small to be grateful for. You can be grateful for the most "insignificant" things. Name the video game character or the flavor of cereal. It's YOUR journal.
Meditation! It can be so many things. I love guided meditations where I check in with how I feel before and after. @MyLifeSBT has been so good for me. The free version is great; premium is even better. It offers more than mediations, too.
Let's talk about that phone. An easy way to be less dependent on it? Review ALL of your notification settings. What *needs* push notifications? Badge notifications? Any notifications at all? It's a one-stop project that has instant effects.
You want to tidy up? Cool! I love @MarieKondo's approach, but there are SO MANY MORE. Try Swedish Death Cleaning if you want! Or read this article https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/maximalist-response-marie-kondo-minimalist-mandate. You can KonMari and have LOTS OF STUFF. Minimalism isn't a KonMari requirement.
Make modifications! Whatever approach you take to anything to take care of yourself, be it a goal, project, habit, or whatever, make it fit you. Try things that are different for you, and then modify them as you need to. You can try something and not like it! Perfect to do that.
I think that touches on most of the thoughts I have about New Years Resolutions and then some. It's a rambly thread, and I love that. Most things don't require perfection, especially Twitter threads.
