1 RT = 1 Business truth for 2021

I’ll start with 3

//THREAD//
1. If you don’t have sales, it’s not a business it’s a hobby.
2. Don’t go into debt for your business. This is why 9/10 businesses fail.
3. If you can’t pull a salary from your business, don’t quit your job yet.
4. Know your numbers.

Will not explain.
5. If you are not marketing and selling your business dying.
6. If you are not a little obsessive over your business you might be in the wrong business.
7. But don’t be too obsessive.

Plenty of relationships, families and marriages broken up because of that.
8. Outsource what you can.

Plenty of people try to do it alone and burn out.
9. Partnerships are great! Until they are not.

Make sure you are aligned with goals, vision, and finances before partnering. Make sure there is an exit plan.
10. My top business books:

1. Profit First - @MikeMichalowicz
2. Building a StoryBrand - @donaldmiller
3. The E-Myth Revisited - @MichaelEGerber
11. Relationships are everything.

One of the strongest relationship builders I've ever known went from 20 employees to 1 because of a failed partnership.

He is back at 10 employees and more profitable than ever only because of his strong relationships.
12. If you can't take a break from your business,

You might be in the wrong business.
13. Take time to think.

You will have problems that need to be solved.

You will need time to find a solution.
14. Job costing

If you are in a service business or contracting this is a must.

Otherwise you won't know what your numbers are.
15. ‘do what you love and then you’ll get paid for it.’

May not be a business if what you love is smelling flowers.

But you can find something you enjoy.

I enjoy building a business as much as anything and my business isn't sexy or flashy.
16. There are people who

-Walk through the woods (forester)
-Plan parties (coordinator)
-Boat (tours)

For a living.

You know what they all have in common?

They hustled to get a client base that wanted to pay them.
17. If 2020 has taught us anything it's that you can't rely on your single income.

It's a risk.

I believe starting a business/side hustle is the best way to hedge yourself.
18. If your business isn’t social media, don’t burn your time on social media.

I post a couple times a week and it has grown. It’s also not my lead source.
19. Raving fans are a huge boost when you are small.

Take care of those customers/clients.

Make sure they know how to leave a review.
20. Under promise, over deliver.

Every. Time.
