I do wanna say one other thing re: Andy and the NYT. I see a lot of folks treating the journalistic malpractice and the rampant harassment as separate things. They're not.
These two things are intrinsically connected. The inability to consider a version of the world in which you’re wrong. The complete disregard for a story that doesn’t match your narrative. The lying. The bravado. The complete lack of introspection.
It's bad to hire serial harassers not just because they're a liability and they hurt people in your workplace. It's also bad to hire them because they're sort of inherently bad at the work of journalism: asking yourself hard questions about whether you're right about something.
I created my own show because it was made explicitly clear to me that I would never be considered "talent" the way Andy was. (Literally someone high up at Radiolab told me that I didn't have "host magic" like he did.) Others were pushed out of the field completely. And for what?
Last thing: instead of saying "omg I'm not listening to Radiolab anymore" maybe instead consider whether these kinds of toxic things are happening in your workplace and how you can stop them. There are some mega talented people at Radiolab. You not listening doesn't change shit.
